Hoof Tracks
Our Kayleigh provides a wide range of agriculture services focused on but not limited to sheep.
A few years ago, Topsy cofounder Ian was standing beside Kay in the shearing barn:
"There`s no way you could do that job" says Ian "it`s way too difficult."
At Ian`s end of life ceremony, Kay said "he knew exactly what to say to motivate me to try."
Shearing is one of the services Kay`s business hoof.tracks now offers.
Please send Kay a message if you have obstinate ovines needing expert attention.
Kayleigh says that: "lambing season is unlike anything I’d ever experienced prior to life on the farm.
It is a season of intense emotions; happiness, sadness, despair, anticipation, and pride are sometimes all felt in the span of a few minutes."
Lambing requires vigilant shepherds: "identify potential problems and address them in time to save the lives of animals we care about."
Vigilance can be exhausting.
Kay has learned that: "in all the intensity and urgency of life on the farm, it is a real comfort to have such an incredible partner. Kyle and I make a good team."
Topsy has not done a good job in capturing the work of the shepherd team.
So much of what they do goes undocumented and unacknowledged.
To solve this shortfall in storytelling, we`ve reached out to the stlawrencecollege marketing department to see if one or more students would like to do a placement here with the specific goal of shadowing the shepherds.
There are so many stories that we would love to tell you - dog rescues, emergency surgeries, nursing a lamb back to health only to have it killed by a predator.
Everyday there is life and death drama.
Topsy Farms is making a commitment to do a better job sharing those tales.

The Potager, our productive, fenced in 50x100” edible garden has never been this productive, thanks to more rain than ever before, and the addition of well rotted sheep manure from the barn we were able to save out by our gallery, circa 1870. Also, more time devoted to weeding and harvesting and processing.
